Challenges and needs must be addressed by adopting a unified and integrated vision. On one hand, there is the need to look towards the future and with a broad view, by projecting the own choices on scenarios and challenges in a wider way. In this way, it is possible to realize a new digital transformation path, more consistent and resilient. On the other hand, is necessary to develop the insights and goals of strategic and prospective type, into concrete and better actions for the own operational reality. In this way, the latter becomes an active part of a system of change.

Digital Traceability

The globalized Agrifood production and distribution bring a renewed attention to the safety, quality and traceability of Supply Chains.

The risks of contamination require effective solutions to track products along the supply chains: the answer to this challenge is represented by Industry 4.0 and Digital Transformation.

Among the most suitable technologies is Blockchain.

The Supply Chains of the Agrifood sector are a complex ecosystem that involves various parties and which makes the validation of some important criteria complicated, including:
– the country of origin;
– the stages of crop development;
– compliance with quality standards;
– monitoring of yields.

For this, various computational protocols can be applied which aim to digitize the verification of transactions to make them credible, traceable and irreversible.

The use of identifiers, for example, allows for digital connectivity and the potential for tracking both products and transaction processes between the different players throughout the Supply Chain.

With the Blockchain, all images, data, and records are digitally signed and attributed to a specific actor.

This reduces the risk of entering inaccurate or fraudulent data into the system. The contents of a digital database are processed by a particular computer system that excludes archiving in a single place, thus reducing the risk of data vulnerable to hacking or corruption as happens in centralized databases.
